Castaic Lake Fishing Report

Water Temperature: 59-63 degrees
Lower Lake-Trout Plant: 01/12/2010
Upper Lake-Trout Plant: 3100 LBS; 04/19/2010

The department of fish and game has stocked 3100 Lbs catchable sized rainbow trout at the main ramp on Monday April 19th. Most anglers are snagging trout from the corner of the dam on super dupers, Gold panther martins, and power bait. For the stripers, the buoy line has been packed with stripers all along the east side and the bait of choice is still sardines and anchovies. Most of the bigger stripers are coming off of the dam and shoreline to the right of the marina and are being caught on night crawlers, cut bait, and trout swimbaits. The largemouth bite has gotten much better in the past few weeks. Fish are now all over the lake beddding and with the water clarity so high you can see about 15 to 25 feet down in some places. Drop shot is still the best technique to use to catch the largies. Lots of people are asking and still no sign of the shad yet. Largemouth at lower lagoon are still doing very well despite not getting any trout for the past few months. Plastics and smaller swimbaits are still the way to go down at the lagoon.
