BASS Live on spawn! The small bass up in the shallows are biting better than previous weeks, but not quite up to some anglers’ standards. The drop shot worked moderately well with purple and oxblood worms. Brush hogs and lizards in watermelon and green pumpkin were reported heavily. Senkos and Ikas made the hot list this week.
TROUT DVL is all about big trout. Nightcrawlers, mini jigs, and trout worms were the most reported baits. Shore anglers seemed to do better than the boaters. The trout were caught in as little as 3 feet of water so light line is a must. Vic Vaniman of Riverside caught a 13.25 pound trout fishing with a nightcrawlers. Christopher Turgeon of Riverside caught a 12.27 pound trout fishing with a Lip Ripperz mini jig. Mike Schulz of Menifee aught a 5.04 pound trout fishing with a Lip Ripperz mini jig. Matthew Ranger of Fontana caught a 13.22 pound limit fishing from shore with trout worms.
STRIPER The Lassen plant revived the striper bite this week. Stripers are always on the move, but the most consistent spots have been the inlet tower or the east dam. Anglers have caught striper on swimbaits, either trolling as deep as 50 feet, or throwing into boils. Kris Massie of Hemet caught a 17.36 pound striper fishing from shore with a BBZ. Steve Ekema of Hemet caught a 22.58 pound striper fishing near the marina with a Castaic swimbait.
CATFISH Not many cats were caught this week. Rawson cove and the inlet are great to drop some bait. Most cut baits, nightcrawlers, or Hog Wild will catch the cats.
PANFISH Crappie fishing took off this week with many reports of 2 pound slabs and a new lake record. Michael Hernandez of Hemet caught 2.36 pound Crappie fishing with a white crappie jig. Jesse Mena of Hemet caught a 3.47 pound crappie breaking the DVL panfish record. Jesse was fishing near the saddle dam with a white crappie jig.
