Pardee Lake Fish Report

Weather forecast calls for temperatures in the high 70s this weekend with scattered clouds and mild breezes in the late afternoon. Look for skies to clear and temps to remain in the 70s. Water temperatures are still 66 degrees at the 20 foot mark and 73 degrees at surface in the Marina. Water visibility is cloudy and lots of fine debris scattered about due to the recent storm. Water level rose about 3 feet since Tuesday and continues to rise due to residual run off. Level is 15 to 17 feet below the spill and holding.

BANK FISHING ---- Bank fishermen have been doing well in the lagoon in front of the maintenance bldg behind the Marina. Makes no sense but some good size trout to 17 inches continue to hang out there even though it’s only about 10 feet deep. Some folks have done ok on Tom Sawyer Island and Rainbow Point. The water in the Recreation Area is shallow and fairly warm so folks are casting 30 feet out or farther from the shore to end up in the deeper cooler water that the fish prefer. Clear bobbers with power bait suspended 3 to 6 feet below or sliding sinker setups that suspend the bait off the bottom are the ticket. Power bait and eggs, night crawlers, maggots and power worms in white are working. The most popular Power bait colors are yellow and chartreuse.

TROLLERS---- Trolling has been disappointing since the storm, limits are the exception. Trout continue to change depth so be prepared experiment to find the optimum depth, lures and bait. The Mouth of the River and around Rock Wall has been just ok. Medium size flashers with small red or pink lures tipped with half a night crawler has been the most effective.

CATFISH---- No word on catfish lately but as temps warm you should find them hanging out in the coves along the eastern shore starting right outside the Narrows and the Woodpile. Night crawlers are the hot ticket presently.

To date 73,000 lbs of good size Trout have been planted by Lake Pardee Inc. and the California Department of Fish and Game.
