Rain today, partly cloudy for the weekend and throughout next week
The forecast calls for rain today (raining now) changing to partly cloudy on the weekend and mid-week. Look for temperatures in the high 50s and low 60s during the day, 40s overnight. Lake level fluctuated all last week and is now approximately 15 feet below spill. Water temperatures remain unchanged, 48 degrees at 20 feet and 52 at surface. Water clarity is good to 10 feet with some discoloration and debris present.
Bank Fishing- Blue Herron Point and behind the EBMUD boathouse have been the hot spots lately. The hot baits have been power bait and Kastmasters. The best colors for power bait have been orange, pink and white along with silver/blue combination for the Kastmaster.
Trolling-----The most productive area for boaters remains the same this week. Anglers are still flat lining and drift fishing the River starting at Columbia Gulch and going up as far as Indian Rock. Good size holdover Trout in the 3 to 4 lb range have been reported recently. The fish are still within 10 feet of the surface, so no need to go deep. Small spoon or needlefish type lures in pink or florescent orange/red tipped with a night crawler, grub or power worm behind small flashers, dodgers or sidekicks in silver/green work well.
Recent Success stories-----Dale Rose and Lowell Kreisel (Mutt & Jeff) two long time Park residents and avid fishermen got these two limits of nice Rainbows in the upper portions of the River Arm using a Rainbow Runner lure trolling slow and shallow. Congratulations Gentlemen-well done!
The California Department of Fish and Game has planted 3000 lbs of fish in addition Pardee Lake Inc has planted 19,000 lbs of trout with more plants scheduled for the near future.
