LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 3.3 FEET, 68 DEGREES WITH CLOUDY WATER UP IN THE RIVERS BY TIM WHITE - RAPALA PRO STAFF
Bass fishing is clearly picking up as anglers are reporting good fishing up in the two major rivers. A good jerk bait bite is happening across the lake right now, despite the lake still being about two feet below full pool. Some wind has been blowing across the lake especially after the rain stops. These windy days seem to be the best times to fish. Nothing is better than fishing a wind blown point during the fall with a jerk bait or crank bait. An X-Rap in either the olive green or moss back shiner color in the clearer water or a Silver or Hot Steel Color in the stained water will catch bass. Also tie on a hot mustard or brown bone Color DT-6 or DT-10 and fish the heavy rocky points. A little top water action has begun. We are using a holographic silver or blue Skitter Walk and a Terminator Tandem buzz bait in either the white or white/chartreuse color. Follow these baits up with a 1/4 to 3/8 ounce grass or finesse jig also by Terminator. Water temperatures are cooling fast and will vary depending on where you are fishing.
