The ice is 14–18 inches thick. Most anglers report spotty success, while a few have found steady fishing with different techniques. Try moving often; the fish often hit best within the first 15 minutes. You don't have to move far each time — just move. If you'd like to stay in once place for a while, try going out to deeper water (around 20–30 feet) and keep changing depth. If nothing else, get away from the crowds at the high-pressure areas (southeast beach, north boat ramp), since these spots often have the slowest fishing. Rainbows generally hit small jigs and ice flies tipped with mealworms, wax worms, nightcrawlers and PowerBait. Tipping larger jigs or spoons with minnows or cutbait can be effective for cutthroat. Remember that cutthroat and tiger trout measuring 15–22 inches must be released.
