There was a Fall bite to the air, a breeze had the leaves moving, and I'd see no sunshine this day. I was first to launch at South Bay shortly after 7:00am. Started my milk-run north to see if the fish were in a Fall mood. First stop produced 7-8 fish on a med-dive crank. Second stop produced a fish or two on the same bait. Third stop cranked out the first couple of 3lb fish along with a smaller fish or two. Forth and fifth stop was like stop number two with a SMB or two mixed in. Stop six produced the biggest bites though they weren't on the spot I'd hoped to find them. Found them a few yards off amongst a dying nut-bed. A flipped creature bait put three solid chunks in the boat while the crank found a wayward SMB who spent sometime out of the water looking at the Fall foilage. Continued on my deliveries picking up a fish or two on most stops before turning around and working back south. Pitched plastic to some wood but only picked up one decent fish for my efforts. Made stops again on a few of the more productive earlier spots taking several more fish off them again with the crank though the fish size did shrink a little. Pike activity was way down with only one fish brought to the boat. One three pound LMB did suffer some serious gashes from a pike attack shortly after inhaling my crankbait.
